Overview
A media extension is only half of a live-streaming product. The other half is the server that receives the streams, delivers them to viewers, carries voice in both directions and keeps everything running when networks are weak.
The Klug Streaming Server was developed together with KlugMedia and is tuned for AIR apps and native extensions. Because client and server were designed as one system, streams start quickly, voice stays in step with the picture, and connections recover on their own.
It runs the PetCam App, our proof of concept, for customers in Europe and the Americas.
How it works
Capabilities
- Live H.264 video and Opus voice from the camera app to every viewer
- Two-way voice: viewers talk back to the camera side in real time
- Viewers can wait for a stream before it starts; the picture appears as soon as it is live
- Clean start and stop of every stream, even after a dropped connection
- Recovers on its own after a network drop or a server restart
- Live viewing in any modern web browser, picture and sound, protected by account login
- MP4 recording on the server, picture and sound, ready to play in the app or the browser
- Every account has its own streams, kept apart from all others
Viewing in the browser
The same live stream that reaches the viewer app can be watched in any modern web browser, on a computer, a tablet or a phone, with no app installed. Access is protected by the account login, and the browser receives picture and sound together.
Running it
The server runs on standard Linux cloud servers. A new server is set up with one install script, and several servers can run side by side, for example one per region. In production it serves customers in Europe and the Americas.
